Hardly. Actually, I think games are better now. I just can't enjoy them as much because they're so accessible.
I aimed for their hearts, and reached their stomachs.
The Triple Stack is small, but the Classic Triple isn't.
LOL, I'm from STL as well. Was at the Galleria SETC when they showed up with those units and went home with one & Night Trap (luckily not with Sewer Shark?). To date, I still don't understand why the packed in Sega Classics Golden Axe is 1P only....
During those 8-bit days, my parents would never let me rent a game so when those rare opportunities for a purchase came up, they became an extremely important decision. All I had for research data were borrowed copies of Nintendo Fan Club and word of mouth from other kids at school/day care. Later on when the 16-bit generation was still a dream, I happened to run across VG&CE for the first time at a Walgreens (first issue with Blaster Master on the front), hardly any screenshots but the novelty of having a publication talking about gaming was exciting. Later on, I would frequent the B. Daltons and Waldens every weekend just to read it, Gamepro and EGM & the many Sendai spinoffs (Super Gaming, etc).

game buying was a bit different for me. Our first console were Atari or Atari home computers. I forget what it was called, but Atari had a system that you could keep adding stuff to until you build a computer. We had lots of cool games for it. There was a railroad game, and a game that let you build your own pinball game. I recall this game about ducks being my fav. You had a little boat in itally and you had to go around saving ducks from an alligator.
A few years down the road my Dad moved to Mississippi. We lived about an hour from Memphis. Memphis had a sears surplus store. That is how I got my first genesis. We got altered beast and thunderforce II for it. I might have been 4 or 5 at the time and didn't get very far in either. Very unforgiving games. At the time, Memphis and Jackson were the only two places to get Gen games. At some point we went back to Memphis and i got last battle and MJ moonwalker. Later, one summer we went to jackson and I got Mickey Mouse and the castle of illusion. That game was pretty awesome and I got pretty far in it.
For the longest time I loved everything robot related. On one of our trips to jackson I begged my mother to take me to toysrus to get Sonic the Hedgehog because of all the robots in it. That game was awesome.
Everything changed with Sonic 2. Walmart started carrying gen games then. I was a little bit older then and started to earn money to buy games. Also at about that time I think I got sega cd for Christmas. It was normal for me and my two sisters to get a console for Christmas as a group gift.
Anyone remember buying games from Child World? I remember getting my 7800 there, along with many many (crappy) games.
