These things are hit or miss (usually miss), but the fact remains that it is possible for both eastern and western developers to bring back old franchises without disgracing the original games.
Outrun 2 and After Burner Climax turned out great, and if Sega can pull that off, anyone can.
I think it's a good trend that's starting. Contra 4 had more respect for the original gameplay and feel of the original 3 than any of the 32 bit Contras, besides just being really, really fun. Anybody skipping it because it's on a portable is missing out that last point.
I'd love to see what WF in particular could do with some of the other 2D franchises.
Bionic Commando's looking pretty promising, Nu-metal character design aside.
A WF-made 2D Bionic Commando remake for portable/XBLA could be very interesting, IMO.
Sega Rally Revo is a great game that feels more like Sega Rally than the previous two sequels did. One of the few flashes of brilliance from modern Sega was setting up a racing game development studio in the UK.
Also, WayForward has a great deal to do to make up for the single worst game on DS (and that's saying something): Ping Pals.
If it takes 10 Ping Pals to pay for one Contra 4, that's ok.
Did you get burned, personally, on Ping Pals?![]()
No, I'm not that stupid. But just because anyone with half a brain should have avoided Ping Pals doesn't excuse them from making it.
Contra 4 does.![]()
