Because it's all cheap.
wEEman broke my drums last night. Red pad hits about only a 10th of the time now. Also, I never got my guitar back that I sent back in early October. Why can't any of these companies make decent instruments?
Because it's all cheap.
Unfortunately, the drums just weren't built to handle Megadeth songs and Dave Grohl fills.
The only reason my old RB 1 kit still works is because the pedal is wrapped in a duct tape cast and I can open up the yellow drum to restick the sensor when it comes loose.
If you're cheap though, there are some pretty good solutions for fixing broken drums:

Hyperspeed is seriously a godsend in this game.
I went back and played "Blackened" on expert drums for the first time since getting RB 2 and it's actually pretty easy when you can see what the heck the game is telling you to play.
Same for "Battery"; that one's mostly just about stamina one you figure out what you're supposed to play.
If anybody wants to play tonight I'll be back on in about 30 minutes.
I think Circuit City is clearing out their RB drums (not sure if it is RB1 or 2 sets) for $29.99 or something. Get a cheap replacement or get the Ion set and party like Josh.
It's the RB 1 drums that are on clearance.
After wearing out the red pad on a RB 2 kit in only a few hours of play, I'd say it's not much better than the RB 1 kit aside from the bass pedal being a little sturdier.
Funny thing is, all the pads still work on my RB 1 kit (though I occasionally have to open it up and fiddle with the sensors), even after a year of steady abuse.
But man does the bass pedal suck hard on the RB 1 kit.
It snapped in the third different place tonight playing the Metallica challenge, but it still works thanks to my multiple duct tape casts.
Pretty soon the whole pedal is going to be nothing but one big cast.![]()
