Thread: Latest PSP/PS3 firmware update: Play PS1 games on PSP via Remote Play

  1. I'll have to break out the PSP and give this a shot tonight. This will be the first time I've taken it out of it's drawer in over 2 months.

It works amazingly easily. The games play window-boxed (black bars on the sides) to preserve the aspect ratio, though you can probably change this in the PS3's settings. The fact that the screen is so small actually hides a lot of the flaws in the old games.

I suspect that you wouldn't want to play twitch games, given that the network connection will have some amount of lag, but RPGs, strategy, games, etc. would be fabulous.

  3. Nice. And yeah, the PSP screen is gonna be infinitely kinder to PS1 games than a TV.

I don't think I'll be able to hold off on a PS3 much longer...

  4. is this really that new? i just havent bothered trying. Hell you can play select ps3 games on psp over remote play.

Everyday shooter and Super Stardust plz.

  5. Seriously, this, FFXIII, god. PS3 is looking so good in the future, in another year it'll probably be a must buy.

  6. yoshi is that a slim case you got around yours? i thought everyone was still too lazy to make accessories for the slims.

Thief Silver, id say theres no time better then now, before the 60gb do truly dissapear.

Which unit is actually playing the game? If the PS3 is doing the heavy lifting and the PSP is just a display, couldn't theoretically the PSP play everything the PS3 can?

the ps3 is doing the load and sending the image to the psp.

Like i said, some select ps3 titles can be played on PSP. Lair is one of them (LOL), and i want to see some PSN games doing this already. PS3 locks out certain games from launching saying they are not remote play supported.

  9. OK, but the PSP isn't really playing Lair, it's playing some dumbed down version of Lair that the PS3 sends to the PSP, right?

I mean, it's not like they can ever do this with PS2 games because the PSP couldn't keep up. That and Sony hates PS2 interoperability.

Unfortunately not. It fits well in the old case, but since the headphone jack moved, it's not terribly useful if you're somewhere you need headphones.
