The first one had some really lazily written stuff that was not in the book, but other than that, it wasn't bad. The scene with Gandalf, Saruman, and Galadriel having a meeting was just horrible.
Is this more of the same?

They forced in a lot of backstory junk from the Silmarillion, which is one of the reasons I wasn't looking forward to this particular take. I think that applies to all three, since I believe that's how they stretched it out into three movies.
