Thread: The Hobbit

  1. I'd love to see an even more over the top fantasy world then what we got in LOTR. The Hobbit always seemed to me to be more playful and more fantasy filled, and I can think of nobody better than Del Toro to bring its world to life. love the sound of animatronics. Always look more real and fit in the world than just pure CGI.

  2. It's going to be pretty hard to make an animatronic dragon not look like a cheap toy.

  4. I don't blame Del Toro, poor guy. How many years of his life is he supposed to give up for these movies?

Shame. I'm not a big LotR fan but I loved The Hobbit as a kid. Del Toro's a great director and I'm sure his adaptaton would have kicked ass and gotten him some major clout.

Jurassic Park was pretty awesome looking.

  8. That is so cool! If I saw that when I was a kid my face probably would have melted.

As for Del Toro it looked like it was going to take another 3 years to finish this.

That's the newest initiative Disney has going on in the parks. Talking interactive animatronics. The talking trashcan is one thing, but when you get into MML, or youtube Lucky the Dinosaur, you'll see what they're up to. Also of note: There is a C3PO that talks to guests and has an very similar voice to Anthony Daniels.

  10. I know this won't be a popular opinion but I don't mind the fact that Del Toro isn't directing. I love Del Toro and I think he's an amazing director. That said though, he has a very particular style, one that has worked fantastically for the Hellboy movies and Pan's Labyrinth. I just don't think that style would work for the world they've already created in the LotR movies. I think the best thing would be for Jackson to just take the helm himself. Which he said he would do if it comes down to it.
