Playing on Manual is much more fun anyways. And I just reached Mt. Temza and watched Ba'ul turn into a great big, giant magical whale of airshipping purposes. Game is so sweet.
Manual is the way to play.
If you're a Judith player, though, jumping is your friend.
Only got to play to the first real boss so far. The crackhead in the castle with the black and red S&M outfit on. He spanked me pretty bad. I found the timing between animations to be pretty large and not quite as fluid as I would like. There's a terrible delay between some moves and combos.
That actually makes your life easier. It makes the timing for combos more generous.
Switch to manual and free run whore zagi. Bait an attack, get behind him and up-attack, up-attack, up-attack. Don't use an arte afterwards. You probably only have cerberus strike and the energy bullet arte, both of which will leave you vulnerable to a nasty counterattack. The up attack string should launch him far enough in the air that you will have time to at least guard anything he tries afterwards.
Zagi has a no-stagger shield if you attack him while he's not doing something, so being quick to attack after baiting his strike is crucial. This is a really good battle to get basic movement and attack strings down.
