Thread: Tales of Vesperia

  1. No, Rocca, you probably just forgot to go back to Aurnion after you collected them all. Sometimes you have to go back a couple of times if other events take priority over the one involving returning the fell arms.

  2. Oops, no. I was referring to the last boss in the secret dungeon.

    Ohhhhhh.

That would explain why. I went back twice and got a weapon for Estelle and Final Gale. I figured the Fell Arms event would take precedence.

    Thanks for the clear-up.

  4. I just beat the game, had a marathon session for about 10 hours Saturday night to finish it. Still not sure what to think other than the fact that I can hear Rita chanting Blah Blah Blah TIDAL WAVE in my sleep.

The story is laughably bad but enjoyable in a B-movie kind of way. It's like a giant collection of anime cliches, and they just kind of assembled them to put the story together. A couple of the plot gaps were too massive for me to even ignore. Why does everyone get over Raven just handing over the princess like he did and Sadia (or whatever the fuck her name was; Flynn's cooldere lieutenant) nearly killing Yuri so easily? Rita especially has blasted people into the next zip code for less, what the fuck.

Also, the AI being a little too character-fitting is aggravating. Raven always shows a massive bias toward the female characters, and Estelle is just fucking stupid, ugh.

I stuck it out and merced many a monster along the way, so it couldn't have been too bad. First RPG on a console I finished in a long time.

For those that need tons of Grade, this guide on GameFAQs will show you exactly how Rita spits Grade for free.

  5. I'm >80 hrs in, have all subquests completed (of those I didn't miss early on), and only have the last dungeon remaining. Although ToV has been an awesome experience, the story took a sharp turn for the worse halfway through.

Up until that point, I felt pure glee watching Yuri assassinate corrupt government soldiers and officials one-by-one. As you know, in other RPGs these mid-bosses are the same ones that you kill off but stick around forever, disconnecting you from the moment. Here, Bamco let you fight them once, watch them flee just long enough to tick you off, then kill them off for good. I think the developers should've ridden this plot line 'til the end! Yuri's bad ways could've been offset by Flynn heading in the opposite moral direction... The rest of your party would find out the truth at the start of the final dungeon, where you'd take control of Flynn (with an identical skill set) to kill off Yuri as the final boss. Creative, no? Instead, the Don gets killed, and Yuri gets giddy over the guild and tosses aside his dark ways. Dumb and predictable.

I never got into the melee/gunner combat, which was much faster and more enjoyable in Abyss with Guy & Natalia. I ditched it early in Vesperia and stuck with Rita the whole way. Refilling the gauge with consecutive burst magic combos is cool.

  6. Playing this took a dead stop once DQIV came out. I'll pick it up again once I beat DQIV.

    I'm @ plot point 90.

Maybe stopping playing it was a good thing, because when I was playing, there was barely an FAQ for it.
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.

  7. I beat it tonight, but not before my 3.5-month-old / <200-hour 360 Elite locked up 3 times in the final dungeon. I suppose the game had to surrender, with me kicking ass with Meteor Storm + Burst Artes over & over. Got 5000 grade on my first run through! Not too bad. When I replay though, it'll be on PS3 so I won't have to deal with this nonsense.

  9. I'm already clocking over 130 hours on my 1st playthrough and I'm still not tired of this game! Still need to work on the EX dungeon, synthesize everything in the shop, cook everything, and finish those damn Warehouse puzzles and some other stuff. I see at least another 10-20 more hours since I also plan on learning Judith. Best Tales game ever until I can fully appreciate Destiny Director's Cut in English (only played it half way in Japanese and that was also great).

It's really odd that Namco still hasn't announced what those codes in the collector's edition will do. I really hope it'll be some awesome DLC but this is Namco... Maybe to coincide with a PS3 announcement that'll have the main game and that DLC with it? I'm hoping for a Flynn side like how Destiny DC had a Lion side or maybe even a Duke side that acts as a prequel to the main story.

Looks like a PS3 port is coming. A new character, new quest, new scenes w/ a bit of new story. Will this be coming over to U.S? If Enchanted arms and Eternal Sonata can be on both systems, i don't see why ToV can't be the same.
