Thread: Election Thread 2008 MAKE SURE YOU VOTE

  1. sure, let me quote your friend squall from all of ONE FUCKING PAGE AGO

  2. Squall already pointed out the problem with that survey though. It's not the men fighting in Iraq. Those guys overwhelmingly support Obama. That's why I posted my article in response to his. The two articles are in no way a factual conflict, either, so one doesn't make the other false, it just shows a disconnect in the politics of different types of people in our military.

See how this works? You have to actually process the information and find contradictions. Try again.

Sure, but you have to take this part into account, though:

The results of the Military Times 2008 Election Poll are not representative of the opinions of the military as a whole. The group surveyed is older, more senior in rank and less ethnically diverse than the overall armed services.

  4. I forgot you're on the ground over there. I hear rumors from 3-1 mccain to 6-1 obama, but that's just conjecture. This is not, the top brass favors McCain.

  5. It's pretty signifigant that any military subsection is even up for debate as pro-Obama. Troops largely hail from rural areas and Bible Belt states where 'Democrat' is a dirty word.

The premise I was initially responding to was regarding Yoshi's claim that the men over there that fought and earned the right to have an opinion were outraged with Obama calling the war a mistake. That is what I am refuting. If Yoshi truly respected the service of these men he would acknowledge that by many reports, most of them support Barack Obama. It's that hypocrisy that I want to attack, not whatever the "brass" thinks. It's Yoshi's bad attempt at a guilt trip on a poor premise.

There's also the matter of very poor evaluation ratings from groups like the Disabled American Veterans, which rate McCain's voting record at 20% to Barack Obama's 80%, and I've seen similar evaluations from at least two other groups. Most of these groups don't endorse in the official sense, but McCain's not scoring well with vets on issues.

Grew up on a mil base tonto, you couldn't be farther from the truth. I would say a good 60-70% are from major cities or suburbs.

  8. You base this on a single military base from decades ago? I don't even know or care whether that figure is true, but I gotta point out that that's some shitty research you've done there.

Frog, you're a smart guy. Just the sure population alone would tell you greater numbers of soldiers hail from New York city and it's suburbs than then entire state of West Virginia.

Actually, I would go Non-American citizens, City, Rural in that order.

  10. I think you're probably right, I'm just saying, it's a lousy argument.
