Victory is bittersweet at best for me. Being black in California and seeing so many minorities (70% of blacks exit polled @_@) coming out in support of prop 8 is absolutely mind shattering. How can they not see this as a civil rights issue? Falling for all of that religious propaganda is just ignorant (but black people devoutly worshiping a God forced on them by slave masters is lulz anyway - of course if I say that to black people I get verbally ethered).

But still, how can you claim to be taking this monumental step forward for equality and be claiming to have struck a blow against discrimination and then turn around and discriminate against the gays?

I'm pretty much done with everyone. I feel like blacks robbed me of my pride today. And no, it's not Gay pride, corny joke guy. You know who you are.

Don't let that ruin this for you. Marriage isn't a civil right, and nobody's perfect. The Supreme Court will strike down the marriage bans as unconstitutional anyway.

Just for the record, affirmative action was never really all about black people, that's just what they said to demonize it easily. I don't agree with AA myself, but it was designed ideally to level the playing ground for women and most minorities as well, not just help black people steal jobs from capable white people.

In the end, it's not right to try to level the playing field by hiring less qualified people, but the same people who are against the idea of AA are rarely in support of building an educational infrastructure that ensures minorities and women an equal chance at being equally qualified, just saying. That would be the best way to combat and forever dead the argument for AA.

I agree, social conservatism is an albatross around the Republican party's neck, but let's not pretend "fear mongering, hate, and anti-intellectualism" are exclusive to the Republicans. Hilary's campaign against Obama was revolting. Obama engaged in some dirty campaigning himself, but I'd rather not talk shit about him today. My point is, it's the social conservatism that's the problem.

I would like to see the Republicans go back towards the center and to their roots. They have to realize they don't need to pander so hard to the religious right, since they will be the better option for them regardless (which is why Palin was a shitty VP choice). What needs to end is the scorched earth policy against universities and cities. How about trying to appease the moderates and right leaning people in that crowd (they do exist!) and making yourselves a viable party for everyone, not just the "base"?

well, the educational infrastructure must be doin alright if Obama got what he needed from it to be elected president. If equality is truely whats wanted then hand-outs shouldnt be promoted at this point in our history...
