Thread: Election Thread 2008 MAKE SURE YOU VOTE

  1. New site detailing everything Obama's admin is doing and everything you wanna tell him about; and believe it, it is at CHANGE.GOV.

(It must be getting HAMMERED because I still can't get in.)

I agree with Maher, though, it really is awesome having a person in the White House who doesn't try to hide how smart he is.

Maher is one of those guys that allowed his cripplingly-low self esteem to translate into a grossly-inflated assessment of his own intelligence. As the years went by he had to find more and more "causes" to show everyone how much smarter than them he is. At this point you've got to just pity him and hope he finds a good therapist someday so he can work it all out.

  4. I still can't believe a serious, 21st-century candidate was trotting out a man known as JOE THE PLUMBER to win a NATIONAL ELECTION.

That probably cost him a lot of votes right there.

  5. McCain knew early on that the stars were aligned against him and he was right. Running after Bush, against Obama and his quarter of a billion dollars, at the start of a second Great Depression, he never had a realistic shot. Once the economy went down in September the race was over. McCain took lots of crazy risks because he understood that he couldn't win if he didn't.

  6. But... he lost.

Also in hindsight I think we can all agree that the Dems won all four debates now, yes?

McCain needed to take crazy risks and have them all pay off. They didn't.

  8. What Spo is saying is that McCain had nothing to lose so he played all the longshots he had just to see if anything stuck. It didn't, but on some level you have to admire the bravado in trying.
    Time for a change

Or he could have just gone with what made people like him in first place: Being himself.

A presidential campaign shouldn't have too many things in common with an episode of Jackass.

  10. I'm going to say those risks were bad ideas. They pushed people away, they didn't just not stick, they completely ruined any hope of him winning, and he still almost won (lol popular vote vs electoral collage)
