    The teacher's not doing anything racist but she's clearly trying to indoctrinate the kids. As for the kids being dumb, what do you expect from 6 year olds? Dissertations on Sunni-Shiite relations?

    I'd think that going from Governor of New Mexico to Secretary of State would be one hell of a promotion. It might not be the best move in terms of presidential aspirations, but he's the best Democrat for the job, and maybe his sense of duty trumps his sense of self. Then again, maybe not.

    Because as a Senator from Alaska, she's guaranteed more national exposure over the next four years (if she plays her cards well) than if she remains the Governor of Alaska. And this isn't a case in which she can just appoint herself.

    Of course. She catches herself a few times but her bias is showing though. That's hardly criminal though. I've had teachers with all kinds of opinions, and I knew their opinions, and I was perfectly willing to discuss them. If these kids parents were worth shit, they'd have shown their kids how to challenge what they hear.

    One of my very earliest memories in my life was when I was two years old, and I saw a toy on TV that I wanted. I told my dad, and he (probably because he didn't feel like buying me shit) broke down to me point by point the ways in which the commercial manipulated its presentation to make the toy seem much cooler than it really was (it didn't actually move by itself, etc). It's a kind of silly thing now, but it was part of a pattern that was a big part of my childhood and adulthood, that I should always challenge the world around me, and explore arguments to the fullest extent I could. It's why I became a philosophy major, and it's part of why I'm a journalist (I know it's just games, but debunking bad info is an important and satisfying part of my job).

    My sister, on the other hand, was raised in strictly religious schools, lived entirely in the orthodox Jewish community, with no exposure to outside ideas whatsoever. She has no capacity to process and digest information in a reasonable way. Everything her rabbi says (religious or not) is true, and everything the newspaper or scientists say is a massive conspiracy. She loses every argument she gets into because she simply can't explain anything she believes.

    It's a learned skill, and you don't get it by hearing what you want to hear. You get it because sometimes assholes tell you shit that isn't true.

    These kids are at least 8 or 9, man. I was more than comfortable arguing with my teachers point for point by then, and I did it quite often.
