Of course. Unfortunately it's a real cultural problem in this country that black kids, especially boys, are taught hopelessness at a young age. White kids are told optimistic lies about how they can grow up to be president if they work hard, and black kids are taught that society will keep them down and that the only way out is through one in a million long-shots like crime, music, and athletics. This message pervades pop culture, it's in the music, literature, movies...
It is everyone's responsibility to overcome this, but when you teach people hopelessness from a young age, the toll it takes on society is immeasurable.
