Thread: Logo work for Savannah Bar/Venue

1. That bar sounds awesome. If I was going to Savannah I'd probably stop in just to experience something like that. But the way you're describing the concept I think the decision has already been made for you. A crest can look cool, but it's more European in tradition (although not really, historically, but graphically crests today take their aesthetics from European nations). The logo you have looks kind of like an old saloon branding iron seer or something like that which fits in more with the old western theme. And the font and stuff like that is modern enough.

I'm not sure about the rock 'n roll aspect. But it's hard to know. You could also throw some rock elements in around your design to tie it all in (other imagery you create that you can use, maybe an axe guitar in the same style as the logo you've create -- really rough linework and a lot of negative space that looks like it has degraded over the years). I always find Pearl Jam posters inspiring when you need some rock 'n roll shit going on.

I know what you mean by sepia tone. Like... older/aged, right? You could do that. I would make sure you save a lot of versions and keep organized so you can always try something and if it doesn't work out then you can come back to the original.

I would start with 1 colour - black. I know it sounds gay, but when you reproduce logo's it is standard to use 1 colour because printing one colour is cheaper than 4 colours (standard printing is called process, 4 colours).

Honestly I would go with the kind of rough, iron-brand feel you have but think about other graphic elements you could use to pair with the logo. Also think about researching typefaces. A nice modern slab-serif typeface might go nicely with the western feel you have going on in the logo.

Also aside from this you should try some completely different styles and directions just to see where they take you.

At least something good came out of Texas.

3. The horizontal stretching on the last one is terrible, avoid it at all costs (with both the text and the crest.)

4. The more I look at it, the more I need to re do it. I'm sure it can be worked with. Any suggestions other than "avoiding it"?

Is this the resolution you're working in, or did you bump things down for the internet?

If you're working in this resolution you're going to be so angry later when you go to print.

For the image, there's nothing you can do.

With the text you can adjust the kerning to space the letters out. But that might end up looking like T H I S
but even T H I S is better than obviously stretched text.

also make sure you're using illustrator for the text, or like josh said, you'll be sorry in the end.

actually if you just removed the helmet from the crest it'd probably be okay. But I also want to know what the deal is with the name/position/phone/email being different type than the Distillery/Assurance... parts. Also the way -illery joins with the crest isn't quite working (partly from the stretching)

7. My only problem with anything is that the card's text is so much darker than anything else; it just looks out of place.

Try sampling a purple from the crest and using that as the color for the text.

Take that iron helmet out and replace it with two guitars crossed behind an old tankard of beer.

There are no rules, only consequences.

9. i just don't get why there is the company logo (the first one) and a business card for the same company that have absolutely nothing in common. the ideas are fine seperately, but to me i would think you would want somewhat uniformity across all branding.

and Drew is right. always work in black (or at the very least make sure everything works and reads well in black) because that's what you'll normally be reproducing in for the cheapest amount of money. the Illustrator bit is more for scaling. you want to make sure your artwork reads well at <%100 and >%100. vector work will get you there.

10. Keep in mind these are just ideas I'm kicking around. I'm not going to be doing the logo work but I wanted to try some things. Still, these are all good ideas. Cow thats awesome.
