maybe the fact that they throw in things like jokes about bill clinton, him getting head, and other such things in their dialoug that DONT BELONG THERE
Magic Knight Rayearth? What are you, a twelve year old girl?im serious though im playing through Magic KNight Rayearth and honestly i think id rather play the game in japanese and i dont speak a word of japanese![]()
Natural speaking, is that ever captured in any form of entertainment? Hardly ever. And if the translations were literal, I think they would be less realistic than WD makes them, unless you have people stoically blurt out facts in your town.the translation is just horrible who ever wrote the dialoug has no fucking clue how normally people talk or how to write dialoug
WD = Past thier prime.
i got nothing against working designs except for their constant delays and the fact that i got no arc the lad watch (although thats the fault of those bastards at gamestop i think). i like their jokes and some of the improvements are pretty good but they shouldn't mess with the gameplay that much. i was playing Dragon Force import the other day and i found out that you can't even use the XYZ buttons to gain easy access to the magic menus and stuff! i thought it was cool that WD actually did that in the localization cause it makes everything go much faster since you don't have to go through the 1st set of menus just to use magic ^_^
Yes, you should get Arc the Lad Collection. Why? Because it's amazing--part 1 will take you about 10–20 hours; part 2--a lot of hours--let's put it this way, I am already more than 20 hours into the game and know there is more than half to go...I've heard it's around a 60 hour game; part 3--I'll tell you when I get there.
The first game is rather controlled and more of a practice to get the concept down. The second one still uses the grid fighting system like Shining Force, etc., but you can now visit towns and buy and equip different weapons. Plus the enemies are a bit more intelligent and tougher (not too much though). Like the enemies actually go behind you and attack now to cause more damage and more enemies have to be killed twice, like the skeletons in the first one. Knock them down once and then destroy their bones before they regenerate--there are alot more enemies that have this feature and some regenerate rather quickly.
Also each character can master different weapons, which brings in another cool feature. Weapons can level up also and each character can level up their mastery of certain weapons. For example, the main character Elc begins the game with a spear. But later on you can buy a sword for him and equip that instead. You can check the status of each in the "status" menu. So for me, I have Elc's sword level at 7 and spear level at 5 because I find the sword more effective. There isn't much to it, all you have to do is equip whichever weapon you prefer and they will level up in normal combat.
Another thing you can do is take your weapon to blacksmiths and have them enhanced with effects or pay to level them up. My Elc has a sword enhanced with +hp on attack, so whenever I attack a creature, I gain life. There are tons of things you can do with weapons, which is cool.
You can also go to combine shops where you can join multiple items and weapons to make new, more powerful ones.
The game is much improved over the first. You have a basic storyline that includes characters from the first, but your main team is all new people. There are also side quests that you can voluntarily do by going to "guilds" and accepting jobs--you earn money and merits for completing them. Also when you are just fighting creatures in the normal world, you'll sometimes come across "wanted" enemies. Kill them and then you can go to the guild and collect a bounty and merits (eventually the merits let you do certain things, not sure what yet).
So I'd say the second one is much more the standard role-playing game than the first because you have much more variety and control over where you go and what you equip. As far as the 3rd I haven't played it yet.
As far as the collection, there are 6 discs total--Arc 1,2,3 and Arena tournament (which works with Arc 2--your one character Lieza in Arc 2 can use a spell "ravish" to capture monsters during battle, you can then use them on your side and in the arena).
it also has a making of CD--all in all the collection is worth it for Arc 2 alone.
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
Ahh Working Behind.....
What else could be said of them that hasn't been said already?
How about the fact that many of the games they take forever to translate are mediocre to begin with. Almost 2 years waiting for the crapfest that was Magic Knight Rayearth really pissed me off. Silhouette Mirage? Please. Aside from the Lunar games (which Vic knows is one of the only things he's done right. How many times have they released the game already?), not much else from the Saturn era on has been that impressive. I can play the Sega Ages in Shenmue for free, and Dragon Force is the only "must have" title they've got on Saturn. I'm still trying to forget the travesty that was Shining Wisdom...
Alundra is very cool, but what else is there? TF 5? I have the Saturn import, thank god. Arc the Lad seems cool, but again, how long ago did those games come out? It seems that by the time WD gets around to actually releasing a game, the system it's for has been discontinued (Sega CD, Saturn, PSX)!
I honestly think that people get so wrapped up in the nice packaging (ooh look, box...shiny..!!) that they forget the substance of the games themselves.
Yeah, I'll buy WD games, when they're good, not because of the nice box and pretty disk art. Give me a great game with an ugly box over a mediocre one with WD's treatment any day of the week.
And I am through!
no im not a 12 year old girl i can get past sch things and enjoy a game but i guess thats to advance for youOriginally posted by Rob
