Thread: Bionic Commando Rearmed

  1. N+'s 75,000 sales don't mean a thing, seeing as Capcom didn't make it. If you don't buy Bionic Commando then 2D is dead as a doornail and it's all your fault. Personally, I think everyone should buy multiple 360/PS3s and a copy of the game for each, just so 2D will never die.

    Huh, how about that.
I'm sorry, the "2D isn't viable" was an overstatement to what the producers said in the podcast. Their tone was more like (paraphrasing here), "in the mind of a publisher, why bother spending resources on updating a classic 2D game with new graphics, weapons, bosses, etc if we could have made more money with a straight-up emulation port?" Of course, that's if Bionic Commando Rearmed doesn't sell well even with its $10 price tag.

If that's the mentality they're operating under already, then it won't do good enough for their standards no matter how well it sells.

I don't hear discussion like this when old games are spruced up for XBLA. If they're already griping over potentially low sales then they really shouldn't bother and shut the fuck up. If it's such a goddamned problem, don't waste everyone's time.

It wasn't their mentality per se. The conversation stemmed from what would be an appropriate price to sell the game (which is why Capcom had a poll on how much people were willing to pay for the game -- $10 or $15) and how people's expectations of what a downloadable title differs from say, bringing this out to the PSP. You'll have to listen to the podcast to truly understand the context because I'm obviously not presenting it well here.

  6. This is just another example of how the bullshit publishers have been shoveling for the last decade is slowly unraveling. Remember when they said that games on CD would be cheaper to make than carts, which would in turn make them sell for less? Didn't happen. Remember when they said that the revenue from in-game ads would help offset the cost of development, leading to cheaper games? Not gonna happen either. Now they're starting to back peddle on how downloadable games will be much cheaper than retail games. Prices were $5, then $10, now they're already hinting at $15. Sure, they're still cheaper, but the price will have essentially tripled from $5-$15 in only two year's time.

This is why I care less about new games with every successive generation of hardware.

  7. And games drop in price faster than ever. It's not necessary to get everything on the day of release.

  8. There's a reason why they're dropping so much faster, I wager.

I buy almost nothing on release day, unless I can get it through trade-in. COD 4 cost me $67 here after tax, and a good portion of that was through trade-in. R6: V2 was paid off that way, and so was GTA 4. I buy most of my games used or when they've hit the bargain bin.

  9. That's the best way to do it.

I read that the multiplayer isn't online. I'm pretty sure I read that in the newest issue of Game Informer.
