Thread: Sega: the Aftermath (Redux)

  1. I played CT3 at E3 and also enjoyed it more than I expected to. The Las Vegas setting really helps add something new to the game, as does the new variety of drivers. Maybe it was my recent trip to Vegas that made rampaging down the Strip so much fun. I was all ready to declare the series dead, but it surprised me. Also controls very well with the new Xbox S-type.

  2. why's everyone so worried about the graphics in a CT game?? it was never about the graphics, it was always about how much fun sega could squeeze into the game..

also, everyone's playing it down because it looks DC-ish.. since when is the DC so out-of-date?? it's a very powerful machine, and most games on the DC that have ports else where (PS2) often look better on DC.. (mainly due to texturing)..(i.e. Test drive LeMans (road looks like ass), CT (washed out), headhunter (general lower-quality look), and other games that would have benefitted from (nonexistant) VGA support on PS2..can't think of others)..

and i'll get CT3 even if sega doesn't squeeze every ounce of technical crap out of the xbox for that game..
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

    you sir, are my friend.

thats what gets me about theses boards, TNL is supposedly a haven for gamers who are not overly concerned about graphics, usually holding the gameplay in higher favor, and some, but not all members usually hold a holier than thou stance towards those at more mainstream boards, yet every thread i visit, i hear someone bitchin about graphics, polys, framerate, the same stupidity i see at the IGN boards basically....the Morrowind thread is a prime example. anyways, like i said before, i cant wait to hit those switches in CT3.

  4. I simply pointed out that it was a generation behind. If a SNES game was released that used 4-color tiles and 16 colors total and had no parrallax (say....Ninja Gaiden Trillogy) people would call the game on it for being a generation behind. That's all.

And I've never made any claim that graphics aren't important. I am a USDA certified A1 graphics whore.

  5. If Crazy Taxi 3 looked as "bad" as the DC versions I'd still love it. Crazy Taxi is a immensely enjoyable game with solid graphics, I care not of fancy reflections or heat waves. *-neo

  6. To bad CT3 looks a heck of a lot worse than the original, at least in my opinion. Very low poly, jagged everywhere, and they forgot the textures for like half of the friggin' buildings! Runs at 60FPS though, but it's no surprise considering.

It plays well, the controls actually feel tighter than the previous games, but the level just isn't as fun as the first one and they left in that lame jump thing. I found the demo to be really, really boring and I loved the original game. And did they add _anything_ new to the gameplay? I couldn't find anything.

After this, SGGG, and a couple other things, I think Hitmaker needs to add an 'S' at the beginning of their name.

I think it's a good example of why its hard to talk about Sega in this context. CT3 is an obvious rehash that feels like as little work went into it as possible, while a game like JSRF just screams effort (though it could have used a little more playtesting). The dev teams all seem to go their own way.

I really hope one of those "other things" isn't the Virtual On series.

Yes, I do realize Force has the potential of being shit, but I find it rather unlikely.

They've even got monkeys rolling around in fucking balls. It works out for all of us, and it works out for them too because they can make games that expand the industry like Jet Set that are purchased by 3 people, make up for the profit loss with NBA2K3, and then please everyone by having badass ninjas named Shinobi with long, fashionable scarfs that do nothing but make the supposedly stealthy ninja stick out like LucasBarton at an intelligence convention.
    Best. Post. EVAR.

Anyway, I can't wait to get it on with some CT3 action. Them games are so damned fun

I loved VOOM in the arcade and loved VOOT on the DC (even though I don't have twinsticks). Which is why I dislike them from not porting VO:Force, which seems to be going the way of that treasure shooter. After the half-assed CT3, I seriously doubt Force will be on the Xbox, at least.

    Actually, I said 'other things' because I can't remember what they are exactly. ^_^;;

SEGA's dev teams were at their prime with the Dreamcast. Ever since the corporation went 3rd party, nearly everything has been a sequel or port of somekind. I can even understand wanting to see some past games given new life, but we also have to remember that time spent on sequels is time taken away from new stuff. If Naka was turning out nothing but Sonic games we'd never have NiGHTS, Samba De Amigo and Burning Rangers. Think about it.
