Thread: Sega: the Aftermath (Redux)

I understand where you're coming from Johnny, but on the other hand, without sequels we wouldn't have Symphony of the Night, Shinobi 3, or Super Metroid.

And you know you crave that NiGHTS sequel.

Well I seriously doubt its lower poly. Considering the cars look better, as well as the people. I doubt they said, "Lets make the cars lower poly count, just for the hell of it." The new cars look much better then the first 2 games. 3 over all in my opinion looks better then the first two, the new effects alone make it look better. I have been playing the second one recently and just watched the CT3 video on the OXM disc, and the improvments are noticable in the reflections and lighting. But the lighting may be more noticiable since its night time. But none the less its looks better. And am I the only one that liked CT2 more then CT1 just because the streets were so much harder and added a much bigger challange?
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  3. It's of course all my opinion, but after playing the demo of CT3 and then playing CT1 again, CT1 looks better. I'd say they are about the same poly count, but the dreamcast hides the low count better than the Xbox does. CT3 plays better overall, but I did not find Vagas nearly as fun as San Fran.

I think CT3 should have at least approached the visuals of Wreckless (without the stupid blur), but it falls way short of the mark. Why no gameplay improvements? Why can't I spend my hard earned fare on taxi upgrades or waste it at a casino or two (though I suppose the final version could include the latter)?

It's not a bad game, really, it's just a big dissapointment.

  4. "I remember arguing against ECM in that thread. But you know ECM, he's an intelligent guy but he is so set in in jaded mentality that he thinks his opinions are fact.

The worst case of is was when he actually argued with me that Goldeneye and The World is not Enough were better than any PC FPS games. I'm sorry, but to think consoles are better at FPS games than the PC is quite ridiculous." QUOTE

Now there's a debate FPSs on PC or Console.

    Depends what you're looking for.

All for all multiplayer online FPSs with mouse control rule. THAT is if everyone has the same connection speeds ie over a LAN. Primarily because Mouse control and its hyper accuracy has elevated the game to a nigh on 'sport' status - because hand it to someone casually into games and they can't fathom using both hands truely independently - or manipulating the mouse with enough savvy.

One player games on a PC however are truely flawed - the 'hyper natural' advantage using a mouse for aiming gives a player means that developers have to develop AI that CHEATS in order to create a challenge for the player. In comparison games like Goldeneye reign in a player somewhat making for a 'more natural' one player game.

    Both arguments will forever rage!!!!!!!!

  5. Without reading all the post in this thread.....

Yes and no. They are doing some things in thier old ways, and yet they are publishing Burn Out and Britneys Dance Beat in Japan. I dont think its a bad idea(though I will stab myself in the ears when some "hardcore" schmuk comes into work and says, "Oh, Britneys Dance Beat, you kow Sega is really the ones that made that, and let THQ publish it here in America!" stupid missinformed pretentious fucks).

A game like JSRf might be a risk stylisticly, but gameplay wise they changed it to better appeal to more casual gamers. They have franchises that are much coveted by the "hardcore" like Panzer Dragoon and will bring that out. Again, on one hand its them taking a risk, but on the other hand the buzz that will circulate around that title will grab the attention of casual players. So its a difficult subject.

I have a feeling that Sega will be taking more risks soon. They are heading tword tackling the #2 spot in publishers, and once there, they will probably be more willing to throw some cash at strange things. Hopefully they will also be smart things. They have a good balance right now. They are making us happy, while convincing the more casual to buy thier games.

  6. I loved VOOM in the arcade and loved VOOT on the DC (even though I don't have twinsticks). Which is why I dislike them from not porting VO:Force, which seems to be going the way of that treasure shooter. After the half-assed CT3, I seriously doubt Force will be on the Xbox, at least.
Keep this in mind: Force isn't quite "done" yet. Much like VOOT, I'm sure Hitmaker wants to port the final version of the game to a console, and not just the latest version. In the arcades, Force has gone from version 7.5 to 7.7. And judging by what I've heard of 7.7, I wouldn't be suprised to see a 7.8.

...But I think I'll see Force on the 'Box. Maybe.

  7. If VO:Force ever does come to Xbox they HAVE to make it compatible with the Tekki controller.

    Remember:

    Fourth is the Force!!!!!!!!

    It's the motto for today.

  8. Tekki controller? Maybe...

But it'd be much better with the real Twinsticks. In their full-size, clickedy, non-analog glory. Without the X-Box color scheme. As accurate as the DC pair, as durable as the Saturn pair. *drool*

    Remember:

    Fourth is the Force!!!!!!!!

    It's the motto for today.
    Damn right!
