Thread: Mirror's Edge

  1. She's an illusion.

I want to try this, but it's going on the backburner until it price drops a couple times.

They're saying that it's a great, but flawed start. A sequel could take the idea further, be more refined and be a much better game. Similiar to Assassin's Creed (which could have an awesome sequel).

  3. Yeah...waiting for the price drop on this one.

  4. Here's a vid of a speed run in one of the early Chapters. Aside from the fact that it's a very good run, I post it to show how the game progresses. A typical first run through this Chapter is pretty slow and painful in certain parts -- staring around, figuring out where the hell to go, missed jumps, clunky fights with guards and probably dying...a lot. None of these things bothered me as I enjoyed puzzling out the levels. The point is, however, that aside from time trials (which are very cool achievement-oriented obstacle courses based on segments from all of the Chapter), beating the game on any difficultly unlocks "speedruns" of all Chapters. Along with time trials, these are where you really master the game and get on with your bad self. Achievements are earned for completing the run under the stated time limits. This vid is obviously a SPOILER for the Chapter [3, I think]. The thing is, it's so smooth and fast that watching this vid once will be of almost no help to anyone playing through the game on a first try.

Edit: If it wasn't clear, blazing through the level along the most efficient path and making it look so effortless is very challenging, and the whole point of the game.

  6. If you're not going to try and run past them (not always possible), bullets are usually the fastest way to get past enemy.

  7. So is anyone playing this? I'm at Chapter 6 so far and think it's great.

Looks marvelous and plays pretty good, too. The controls take some getting used to and I find the cutscenes (the anime/cel shaded ones) kind of cheesy, but aside from that no complaints.

There's too much other shit to play now to care enough to go crazy trying to play every game I want to. I'll wait for post-holiday price drops or pick shit up used in January.

Can't stop playing it. The speed runs and time trials are addictive. Frustrating as hell, but addictive.

Truth truth. I'll be honest, the pre-order bonus is mostly what swayed me into taking a chance and buying this. But it's still very good, even with all the releases bombarding November (and maybe December).

Heh, yeah. I'm at a point now where I have to fend off 4 guards with an array of either machine guns or shotguns and it's pretty impossible. I must not be getting something (it's right after falling down that dropping that metal lift in the narrow yellow area). Worth a shot when I'm not as sleepy, I suppose.

I hear the time trials really are the Devil Incarnate. Is it true you can work on each chapter in parts? Because if so, that's pretty nice of them to do...

It almost feels like a shmup in some respects. Restarting over and over until you've perfected the art to a T.
