I bet I beat all of AaronChance's times with a joypad.
I enjoy every second of it.
Weapon hotkeys on a keyboard may not be as natural but you can have many more of them and you don't need to stop aiming to press them. And once you get good with them, it's faster.
And WASD obviously doesn't allow for the movement variation of an analog stick but this isn't much of a hindrance in most FPS games. In fact, many high-end movements just aren't possible on a stick (or are much more difficult at best) due to the extra time it takes you to go from 100% in one direction to 100% in the opposite. Quake 3 bunny hopping, for example. Many people prefer the 8-way Virtual On twinsticks over a regular pad for a similar reason.
Who stops moving to hit a hot key? Even MMO players are more dexterous than that.
But you do need to do it in just about every other FPS.
And another good thing about WASD: Pressing W always gives you 100% forward. It's very easy to list slightly to the side with a 360/PS3 pad but this isn't much of an issue until you're in a hyper-precision game like Mirror's Edge, where any deviation actually slows your momentum slightly and can ruin some of the tougher jumps.Yoshi's right. Good keyboard mapping means that you never have to let go of the W (or the E, as I use in most high-speed FPS).
edit: Man, I could talk about this ALL DAY.

It should be pointed out that nearly everyone who actually plays games on both PC and consoles prefers the PC controls.
