Thread: The Grudge List

I'll get back in the morning to research that.

I think it's safe to say Capcom didn't have higher earning coin-op years than the SF2 era, for one. Beatmania was in the Guiness Book of Records as a high-selling machine.

I need time to do more research, but I'm pretty confident that's not correct.

It was real, but what sucked is that it was a single stage that never ended. There was no boss or anything, and it just went on and on until you hit reset. Massive disappointment.

    3d Worldrunner NES
I was a kid who actually cleared every single bullshit level with the insane timed jumps that I know I'm no longer capable of. I make it to the last boss on world 9 and kill it. The screen flashes for a moment and I see this on my screen..

    Please insert Disk 2

WTF @ SQUARE GOD DAMN FUCKING UNFINISHED HORSEMONKEYBULLSHIT!!
    Holy shit, that's awesome.

Yeah, but that's well after the fact. We're talking about the the first couple NES years, yes?

    Anyway, interesting conversation.

Long story short, the final boss kills me. After four hours in this horribly tedious dungeon. Dead. All that time wasted. I could try again, but that would mean reloading before entering the dungeon, leveling up a bunch, and then trudging through with the possibility of dying once more at the hands of the final boss, and losing another four hours. .
I played the hell out of Persona, even going through it a second time for stuff I missed on the first play-through, and I don't remember the last dungeon being that bad, even with my every-part-of-the-map-must-be-explored anal retention. I also didn't have much trouble with the final boss. Maybe I was just a more diligent gamer back then.

This sounds like a beef with Nintendo fans, not Nintendo games.

I did list the games I didn't like, just like the OP...

We have already had "most disappointing" and "worst" lists, I'm sure. The games in this list can even be excellent but with something that bugs you. So, if you blame a game for the decline of the industry or for giving you an STD, this is the list for it.

Here are some that came to mind for me (not in any order):

StarTropics - Buying it used without the map and with no access to the code to keep playing really sucked because I was enjoying it. I refused to buy Zoda's Revenge when it came out.

The Longest Journey - Now, I'm not superstitious but having two hard drives die on me while playing this makes me scared to reinstall it.

Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf - I rented this back in the day primarily to access the hidden Fantasy Zone game. I followed what the magazine (I forget which one) said but I couldn't get it no matter how many times I tried. It drove me nuts not knowing whether it was my fault or the whole thing was a joke.

Donkey Kong Country - I thought the gameplay was good but I didn't appreciate Rare usurping DK's character designs. It also paved the way for the abominations of DK64 and the DK rap.

Well yeah, but it's what I associate with Nintendo games and what makes me not want to play them.

So you live in mortal fear of Banjo-Kazooie fan approval? Why would an adult give a shit about what a fan-base thinks?

look the games I listed all bugged me, and I gave reason for not liking them, just like the OP did with the games he listed, so leave it be.
