Thread: Paranormal Activity

  1. Yeah, I got it twice. I tried to reply, but Mr. Popular's PM box is full.

Blair Witch cost something like $500,000 to make and made about 250 mil. PA cost way less, but the buzz is already starting to die down on it. I don't see it ever breaking even $50 million.

Insane profit, still, but it won't be a phenom

  2. PM box is clear now, nigga.

Not from what I'm seeing. My local metroplex is usually completely dead on a weeknight, but last night the parking lot was packed, and every showing of PA sold out. That's unheard of in my area on a school weeknight.

Still, 250 mil? I doubt PA will clear that, but I sure hope the director is at least getting a percentage of the take.

  3. He's already working on his next movie. He's using the found footage premise but this time it takes place at Area 51.

  4. I always wonder what kind of success these kind of filmmakers will enjoy once they transition from their guerrilla-style, low-budget filmmaking to more maintream, bigger-budgeted stuff. The Blair Witch guys both still work as directors, albeit mostly on crappy-looking, direct-to-video stuff (including Blair Witch 3, which according to Wikipedia is slated for 2010. Oh, boy).

Still, we know the PA guy can do good shit with the "found footage" genre, and the idea of him possibly making one with an Area 51 setting has me interested.

  5. I don't think it's a possibility, I think it's actually filming now and is on a similarly shoe-string budget.

  6. Hmm...Area 51 on a similar shoe-string budget? That worries me a little.

    We will see.

  7. I really wanted see this a few weeks ago before it got its wide release because they only had midnight showings which I thought was an awesome gimmick for this kind of movie.

Anyways, I finally saw this tonight and it was really good. The tension throughout the film was well built. You just started dreading the moment they had to go the sleep, and when the freaky shit started to happen during the day, all bets were off.

I don't know if you guys noticed, but I loved how the relationship falling apart attributed to the demon getting stronger and stronger because of the negativity. At least they were somewhat happy, although you could tell Katie was pissed about the camera from the get-go. But by the final days, they were barely speaking to one another. Micah didn't help at all by being a douche and trying to be all macho when pretty much lead to the demise of both of them. Had he listened and not gotten the ouija board, tried to contact the demon and instead contacted the demonologist, things might have turned out better for them.

I also kinda came to the conclusion that Katie was [spoiler]against ouija boards before the psychic said it would be a bad idea to use. I'm thinking she tried the same thing at her old house and that it caused her house to burn down. This time, the demon teased them with the fire, pretty much saying I could've burned the house down like last time, but chose not to. A side note; I am a little annoyed that when Micah was going over the tape, nothing was mentioned of the fire. Anyways, this is just an assumption I had, although I don't think it its strong enough to hold up.

The ending was fine. It gave one last scare. Having it end with her just standing by the doorway after the camera fell like Mr-K said would kinda be a Blair Witch knockoff.

  8. Just as an aside, I went to the place where blair witch was filmed, and that shit was really creepy. I haven't seen the movie though, we went as a group and people were actually getting lost, the area does kinda loop around wierd.

  10. I saw this in Georgetown 2 weeks ago, and totally loved it. I did myself a favor by not seeing any of the trailers though, because I would've been pissed if I already knew the ending. That original ending sounds awesome though.
