It's true--the movie is about a plant monster (a plant monster that does not change form). They are similar in the most basic of ways (Antarctica, Alien Ship Crash, Terrorized Scientists), but the new levels of tension, distrust, gore, and insanity are from the remake alone.

The original *did* have a hot girl in it though.

And keep in mind, we now live in a world where Rocky Balboa, John Rambo, and Indiana Jones are all 60+.

The first two are true. Outside of Nightmare Englund is pretty annoying-it was always obvious stuntmen doing the demanding stuff.

As for it being a horrible idea, I dunno--if they keep away from an origin story and don't rehash characters/scares then it could be cool. That and if they don't do a shit job on the CG, which they will, no doubt.
