Thread: Favorite movies of 2007

  1. Zodiac, Ratatouille, and Angel-A were all outstanding - easily the best 07 releases I saw.

3:10 to Yuma and The Mist were really good.
Sunshine and The Heartbreak Kid were pretty good.
I was hugely disappointed by 300, Superbad, and Hot Fuzz.

I've yet to see most everything else.

Sweeney Todd- I disagree, Yellerdog. This one carried itself on visuals, and the visuals weren't that good. The singing, on the other hand... was mostly awful. I mean, i didn't know that girl was even really English, i just thought she was really obnoxious. I did enjoy the movie when it wasn't singing! And the By the Sea, or whatever it was, best part of the movie, and something i actually enjoyed.
That's ok Finch, we can still be buddies!

By the Sea WAS the best part of the movie, undoubtedly.

I'll edit this into "proper format" later, but: Ratatouille, Sunshine, Darjeeling Limited, 300, Casino Royale, and Hot Fuzz come to mind.

  3. Casino Royale

    Release Date:
    17 November 2006

Yes it really bothered me that they allowed the Year 2007 go past without a Bond movie.

  4. Favorites:

    Into the Wild
    No Country for Old Men
    Sicko
    Persepolis

    Also liked:
    Michael Clayton
    Juno
    American Gangster
    Zodiac

Still to see: There Will Be Blood, Assassination of Jesse James

  5. The Good:
    300
    The Kingdom

    The Bad:
    Transformers
    Die Hard 4

    The Ugly:
    Sweeney Todd

I cannot recommend The Kingdom enough.

  6. The Bad:
    Die Hard 4
    Incorrect

Also I have to add 3:10 to yuma, paprika, and benders big score.

  7. Death Sentence, TMNT, Pursuit of Happyness were all really good.

I was really disappointed with Halloween.

Didn't see too many 2007 releases, though.

  8. I refuse to believe that Pursuit of Happyness was anything other than sappy drivel.

Ok, I can now add Assassination of Jesse James and Sweeney Todd to the the "seen it" pile. I liked both, but didn't love either. I saw the old Ben Kingsley version of Todd and I was impressed by how much better Burton's version was, at least. The '98 one put me to sleep.

You love pimping out The Kingdom. It was good, I wouldn't call it "great" by any stretch though.

My movie of the year is easily from what I have seen The Darjeeling Limited. Granted this could change when I see my "ashamed I haven't seen list" movies, but Wes Anderson did it again. This movie was so well put together, oozes style, the acting was fantastic, the soundtrack was one of the best I had heard since I could remember, and I could just keep on going on with how much I loved it (but will save you the pain of reading my terribly put together impressions).

Also, Natalie Portman nekkid = automatic MOTY.

    My top 5:
    Zodiac
    Ratatouille
    The Darjeeling Limited
    I'm Not There
    Grindhouse

    Honorable mentions:
Black Snake Moan, 3:10 to Yuma

Fun movies I loved but could never be considered "best of":
Live Free or Die Hard, Transformers, Pirates 3, Smoking Aces, Reno 911: Miami, 300, Shoot Em Up, 30 Days of Night

Movies I'm ashamed I haven't seen (but will buy immediately upon DVD release):
No Country for Old Men, American Gangster, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, Michael Clayton, There Will Be Blood, Juno, Charlie Wilson's War

Meh, it was a decent movie. I only saw it cause I needed a movie to see when I was out on a date. But not the best of 07 in my opinion.

Ooh, Die Hard 4 > The Kingdom
