Thread: Wanted

  1. Looking forward seeing it this Sunday. Few clips I saw looked pretty cool, and I am always happy to see hard R action flicks, especially as Summer movie.

  2. I saw this on Monday (more free tickets from work). I've read the comic, but I still enjoyed the movie. Though for the most part the movie is nothing like the comic, the first 20 minutes or so are fairly close but then it goes off in a different direction. It was something fun to watch, with cool action going on. Good summer popcorn flick. The comic book is awesome, but I would suggest not reading until you have seen the movie if you plan on seeing the movie, because everyone is so much more bad-ass in the comic and less whiny about killing people. Because they are Super villains who took over the world, not some assassins of fate crap

  3. I finally read the comic recently, all in one sitting, and it was okay. Maybe slightly better than I thought, from what I had heard.

    Pretty much.

I just came back from seeing it, I liked it a lot even if it doesn't follow the comic. It also had it's own set of twists that differentiate it further from the comic although some of it kind of has the same end result such as with Wesley's father. There's a LOT of insane action throughout the film, the end shoot out in particular was really amazing but at the same time this movie owes a hell of a lot to the Matrix film(s) given the style of action and the visual effects with the "bullet time" sequences.

James McAvoy is fairly likable for the most part and you can't help but wait to see him kick ass once he's fully trained. Angelina Jolie was really good in this movie as well, this is the type of movie role she excels at and she looked like she was enjoying what she was doing. She looks skinnier than usual but I still thought she looked hot, she even had a nice ass shot

It's just too bad *spoiler motherfuckers* the Fox died. The ending was a really great scene which takes the film full circle in a way so it went out with a bang, literally.

    Overall I'd give the movie a 8/10

When compared to the other films I've seen so far this summer the ranking goes:

Iron Man > Hulk > = Wanted > Indiana Jones

So I liked it about the same level as Hulk (maybe less) although I have a feeling that Batman: The Dark Knight is going to either tie or top Iron Man.

  5. I'm seeing this tomorrow. I know I'm going to enjoy it.

  6. Well, I had kinda better expectations for it, than it actually turned out. Not bad, but sadly mediocre action flick, plagued by shaky cam and overuse of so called Matrix like effects. As always watch out for some SPOILAGE here

I didn't mind the story, and actually liked 1st half quite a bit. The low clerk nobody, who finds himself in the crazy situation and transforms into assassin with some crazy powers. What not to like. Decent performances by the cast and high budget, too bad I am bit picky about action that I like.

It didn't had too many action scenes, and while few were imaginative, they still suffer from look we steal it from Matrix and Equilibrium, and guess what those films done it better on the quarter of the budged of Wanted. Too bad, since The Machine Floor shootout and and Butcher fights were great, but could have been even better in the hands of the more capable director. Over reliance on Slow Mo effects only hurt the film, and shaking the fucking camera in the middle of the action film, is fucking stupid, no matter if they trying to show the character anxiety. Fight against butcher was cool at how both characters used their unique weapon powers and at least he stood out of the crows of lame gun wielding would be bad asses who didn't do shit Run N Gun sequence also was neat, but I've seen it before in similar form in EQ but with less of shakes. Car chase would be cool if the camera didn't shake even worse than MBay flick and I love MBay, but here it was grinding on my nerves The opening with the Fake Father jumping the scraper in slow mo, while silly at least made me chuckle. Didn't care much for the Train crash bit myself, but I guess it can be called ok.

Jolie still looked pretty hot, skinny arms didnt bug me much and ass shot was neat Her decision at the end, and follow up scene was kinda dumb. But delivered some neat CG gore.

Speaking of gore and brutality, at least movie delivered in those areas, with shiton of splashy headshots and other mutilations, which is doesnt happen too often in Summer fare flicks.

Cast was ok, McAvoy did alright as at first wimpy, but then hardcore Wesley, AJ was hot and Freeman did your usual the evil guy shtick, but Kill that Motherfucker and Oh Fuck Me lines made me laugh

I wasn't sure that it was a great idea using director of Night/Day watch here, and Timur Beki..man, I am lazy to type his name, proved my worries. While he got some sense of style, he cant direct action for shit, and instead fills his flicks with the overabundance of sfx and camera tricks, most of which just tire you out instead of being exciting.

For the bad guys who can control bullets, they all sucked at controlling them at the hero, especially when he was trapped inside the truck cab. Fox's decision to circle jerk suicide was also a bit lame, but I guess she followed the CODE.

At the end, I am gald that that studious still take chances with R rates flicks in the summer time, but cant be not disappointed in the final result

Maybe, in a few months, when this will hit BD, I might like it bit better than now, we'll see.

  7. Not even a reference to Fuckwit or Shithead = fail.

It's a good movie on it's own, but they almost could've called it something else and been fine. I realize they couldn't really make him likeable if he was killing and raping everyone - and they had to throw out the super-villain angle - but more ties to the original story and less bullet-curving would've been great.

  8. This movie was awesome. I've never read the comics and I don't care. Excellent action, very stylish, slightly thought-provoking. Take a little bit of The Matrix, throw in some Fight Club, and sprinkle on a little Office Space, and you have Wanted.

  9. I honestly wish I had never heard the premise of the original comic. It sounds so amazing that it kind of ruins an otherwise good looking action movie. Curve the bullet is gimmicky, but it's sounds like an awesome gimmick for an action flick. The movie action shots I've seen in trailers and the commercial also looked creative and stylish, which I'm a fan of. I won't go and see this in theatres, but I will look for it in an OnDemand kind of TV capacity. Or if someone rents it I might sneak it out of the case and willingly allow it to steal a few hours of my life.

  10. IMO, if you've seen the trailer, you've seen it all.
