Thread: Best Sega Game on Dreamcast

  1. The random battles were annoying, sure but as Kidnemo said it didn't define the game as much as the other elements did. I'm sure it would have been less long without the random battles but I think that helped it feel a bit more epic IMO.

  2. I hate random battles as much as the next gamer, but there was just so much to love about SoA that I was able to overlook it.
    I didn't mean to say that Arcadia flat-out sucked because of the random battles... oh wait.. maybe I am saying that... *cough* but I agree. Arcadia has so much good, and if it were not for that one problem, the game would have gone down as -the- RPG to beat.

    But instead, it's just another RPG with some good stuff that people will likely never get to for the same reason people get sick of playing FFs. It's just so disappointing because Arcadia could have been one of the best games ever. Overlook or not, it's still a flaw.

    The item where you could fly above the clouds to avoid random battles while in the airship couldn't of come earlier.
    It helps, but if you're roaming the world looking for discoveries, that thing won't help you one bit because 98% of the discoveries are in the main map. Nice attempt at salvaging the game, but still a failed attempt...

  3. as far as the random battles are concerned in SoA(hey you gotta level up somehow)....a VGA connection and a pair of nice comfy headphones will quickly kill the annoyance of random encounters.

    Because according to me, and thousands of other gamers, we CAN overlook the random battles, and enjoy the beautiful game that lies underneath.

  5. The game does look quite brilliant on VGA. Although I noticed it looked a bit more flat and less soft as it did on a regular tv.

    No, Overwork's attempt at salvaging the game failed. It was a nice idea in theory... a way to avoid random battles. But in execution, it was kinda worthless in the end.

    Ah, that I can understand, it was kind of open to interpretation in your orginal post though.

    Still with the exception of looking for new discoveries it worked great.

    Ok, you think the game's huge flaw was the random battles. Big deal and that's you, I don't think they wanted to 'salvage' the game in the last minute of the game I thought of it as an afterthought sort of like the crimson heads in RE. It was just a nice way to avoid the monoteny and getting from point A to point B faster.

    I know it's your take on it and all but I don't know why you are condeming a game and developer for one flaw you didn't like.

    2, Jet Set Radio
    3, Rez

    Skies and JSR are my 2 favourite games of all-time. So that was pretty easy!
