Actually, I have tried those places. I even stooped to going back to Staples. Nothing. They've all hired for X-Mas time. What sucked is Shop Rite laying me off after Thanksgiving. If they did it a week before T-Day I'd have another job by now.

Jobs are hard to come by around here right now. Not impossible, but hard. Things are out there though.

Most places allow for days off due to Funerals. I know only immediate family, but Mr. K could have told them he is family.

We have bereavement leave in Canada. Maybe there's an alt in America but I doubt it. America, and North America in general, are work shackled. It only entitles you to 3 days immediately following death anyway.

Lifebanc gave me 3 days bereavement leave if it happened in town. 5 days if I had to fly somewhere.

We joke in our company, if any family members die, that means no vacation time for that year. All our days off (sick/vacation/natural diasters/whatever) are grouped as "Paid Time Off".

I thought I would be fine going into work today but I left after 30 minutes. Being around other people was too much. I'm going to sit at home and play video games all day.

One of my best friends died right when I started my Senior year of highschool and I had another good friend die a few days before I started the 8th grade. I was kind of growing apart from the guy who died when I was younger but I don't believe anything has hit me as hard as when my other friend died.

It was a sudden thing...I had gotten home from school and I remember I was listening to the Aeris theme from Final Fantasy VII and I got a phone call from my friend Dave who just said "Mike went to the hospital this morning...he didn't make it." I hadn't even known he was sick and it was just like BOOOOM!" I went over to his house (his brother is also one of my good friends) and so many people showed up and we were all just crying.

This was over six years ago now and just reliving some of these moments by typing this up make me feel very sad. He was the same age as your friend and also had some health problems. I know how you feel and I'm very sorry for your loss.
