Bleeding the brakes is the hardest part, and that's easy too. Watch a youtube. Hell, Advance (or autozone) even have videos of their own you can watch online to see how it's done. Get a buddy to help you.
If it's a rusted piece of shit that runs like crap, then sure, ditch it. But if all it is is the brakes, that's really not reason to get rid of an otherwise good running vehicle.
(let's say it runs $400. Tell your wife you saved $600 and are using that for another Disney trip.)
