oh, well 10%
450 instead of 500. I don't know why they aren't knocking your door down.
Unfortunately, now more than ever, the market sets the price. As talented as Hero may be, the market is probably flooded with people of a similar skill set. Companies can low ball and they know there are people out there desperate enough to bite working for a fraction of their normal rate.
True. The great thing is once a company gets fucked over by a bad designer/illustrator, they typically reevaluate their position. That's assuming they're a good company you want to work for.

That's the key - usually dropping price and being desperate for low-paying work gets you mixed up with those who aren't worth working with no matter the price. Those who are good to work with tend to value high quality and are willing to put the money into it. Not to mention that no job is ever set in stone as far as rates go, nor the (mostly anecdotal) evidence from other designers that when they drop their rates, they actually tend to get less offers. Since it seems there's a notion that such work really does have a quality::cost relation.
Whatever. Enjoy your canned soup and heat less winter.
Soup is good food.
IP's buttcheeks won't get cold since he saved all of those old newspapers and books and empty dvd cases. He can burn them to stay warm.
Burning plastic sounds like a fantastic idea.
