  2. I've said it before but I don't think Americans would deal with that sort of thing. My dad needed a non-emergency heart surgery and got it in a week. From what I've read of socialized systems that could easily be a many months long wait.

    Obama sold the PPACA as all upside and benefits and got rightfully killed for it. Nobody selling healthcare reform ever talks about the negatives of it and so they aren't trusted and lack credibility.

    Health insurance is tied to work in the US because of WW2-era salary controls. Companies couldn't give their employees a raise or pay more to attract applicants so they offered health insurance. The government stepped into the labor market for what seemed like reasonable cause at the time and it led to unintended consequences we're still dealing with.

    We'll just have to agree to disagree. The right's perception of labor and what it means for self worth and what people are entitled to is older than ww2.

    Sloth is a sin. Labor is a virtue. Work or you don't eat. Work or you don't deserve healthcare. Those that do not work are worthless and deserve to die. Those that are wealthy are better by the assumption that their wealth equals labor and will birth more labor.

    All of this propaganda is so ingrained in the conservative population they can barely articulate it nor do they know where it comes from. Work or die.

  5. Kids are so goddamn soft nowadays. One of our employees refused to put her hair up in the morning when my co-manager asked her to, so when I came in a took her and the other new girl into the back and said "Avalon and I are your bosses, and when we ask you to do something, we need you to do it, cool?" The guilty then asked what this was in reference to, and I said "it's not important what incident it's about, it's that I need you to listen to us." Now I've had 10 texts and a bunch of bullshit about how I'm some kind of Aggressive Monster.

    They already put up with it to some degree. When my dad had his cancer cut out, it took months for his insurance to line up with the procedure he needed. The doctors admitted after the fact that had he waited longer it might have been too late.

    But, yeah, sure, I guess he could have sold his house at a loss and gotten the surgery sooner.

  7. The doctor was ready to do the surgery though. That's the thing - our problem is the insurance. The problem with Obamacare, and why it does not work, is the health insurance market. The reason why Medicare/Medicaid suck balls is because the insurance is so meager.

    Its the whole system. None of it works worth a shit.

    And medicare/Medicaid isn't something to copy. Care providers end up having to pick between not being paid what their time is worth, a staff, and overheard or making you take tests you don't need.
