Thread: Arcades in Japan closing en masse

The official Sega site, I've posted above, shows that version to be the Super Deluxe.

Perhaps the version I'd played was a special setup for the Gameworks in Grapevine Mills. It had a smaller screen, but the screen moved with you and the whole unit was set up on hydraulics.

I was pretty sure that I played the commander cab as well, but it moved like you described and not the "left and right" listed on the website. More research is required!

  3. All these different cab versions are confusing me too. Too lazy to do the research though...

  5. Jillians has a great selection of arcade games.

Basically, they fucked with the game in the name of making it 'easier' to play, while not doing nearly enough to actually get new players (like replacing all of the male characters with 13-year-old girls).

That and the entire arcade industry is hell-bent on pricing itself out of existence (didn't we see this shit in the mid-late 90s in America?) Forcing expensive upgrades, forcing multiple unit orders; if the games don't draw the operators (especially the smaller ones) are just hosed. Hell, even the publishers of the 'cheaper' 2D fighters are trying to arpe everyone now. I was looking at importing Melty Blood: Actress Again or Arcana Heart 2 until I saw the prices -- twice that of their predecessors. Thanks.
Japan has always been higher priced than the rest of the world for arcade stuff because they could draw in the crowds before. MVS carts back in the day would retail near $2000 in JP but be less than $800 in the US for what's essentially the same thing. Sega was really banking on VF5 being as big as 4 so they could rake in the yen like last time but unfortunately that's not the case...

I went to chuck e cheese for my friends 28th birthday party. It was awesome. NOTHING but ticket games. I got enough tickets by the end of the night to get 3 tootsie rolls and a package of fun dip.

The pizza was fucking good. As good as I remembered it. I was sitting in a bad seat, because on occasion robot chuck's soulless eyes would click over to me and I would get scared. All the songs that chuck's band plays are from the 80's now, instead of the 70's.

Last time I went to Chuck E Cheese's my girlfriend got sick from the salad bar. Why the hell would you eat from the salad bar?

Damn, Jedah Doma is lucky. Looks like there's an Aliens gun game (kind of a real shock to see that there) and a Pump it Up as well. This is more video games than I saw the last time I had been to CEC.

Reading further into the NG-com thread, I found a bit about some place called FunZone that now charges 3 tokens for Arkanoid. No joke. It better be the F3 cart game Arkanoid Returns for that price.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  10. That Aliens gun game kind of blows. Alien 3: The Gun kicks the living hell out of it, big-ass scaling Sega pixels and all.
