So what control scheme is everyone using? I'm forcing myself to stick with the wheel for now, in hopes that I'll get better with more experience. I have a feeling, though, that doing well with time trials might require the nunchuck configuration.
The game is amazingly lag free--no exaggeration. In the limited number of games that I've been able to play (maybe 5 or 6), there was no difference between those races and the offline races.
Makes you wonder how incompetent the Smash Bros. team had to be to get a game with 1/3 as many online players in it running no better than a Chu Chu Rocket level of optimization.

Same here.
Oh, and I added everyone. Let the humiliation commence!

I agree with whoever was saying this could be the best Mario Kart yet. I played online for a few hours last night, and it was amazing! The motion controls are spot on with this game too...it took me no time to get used to the wheel.
I agree that the choice of old tracks kinda sucks, but the new tracks more than make up for it. There is some superb course design in this game. I'm really digging the Toad Factory, Wario's Goldmine, Maple Tree, and New DK Summit courses. Hopefully, I'll be able to play online some more tonight!
EDIT - I hate to say this too, but it would be a real shame if Nintendo doesn't release all the old tracks as downloadable content for this game. I'm a real hater of downloadable content (I've never purchased any DL content for any game I own), but I'd actually buy new courses for this game if they were like $1 each
DOUBLE EDIT - I think the most surprising thing about this game though, is that I actually like the tricks! I thought I would hate the trick system, but it really adds a whole new dimension to the game. To be more precise, I don't think the trick system itself is that great, but the fact that you get speed boosts for doing the tricks really spices up the races a bit.
