Those people can just boycott what they produce completely. record labels do promotion and distribution. When you don't know how your money works, you tend to give up most of it.

Ok.What exactly does a record label produce? They're predatory entities that exploit and rip off the people that produce the stuff. They used to be a sort of nessecary evil I guess, but have long outlived their usefulness.
If the RIAA backed away from their anti-piracy schemes I'm guessing most fans would be ok with them, even though they would still be abusive predatory entities that exploit and rip people off.
Without high levels of piracy the interweb brought, the RIAA wouldn't be making their embarrassing attempts to hold it back. Maybe they'd be making less embarrassing ones or something. If people completely ignored what they were doing and actively supported artists/companies which followed fairer business models all the record labels would be able to do is see their own fall into irrelevancy or change.
