I messed with one a few weeks ago, the bigger screen doesn't do much for the low resolution, but it's ok as long as you're not holding it right in front of your nose or something. Lid felt like it could get pretty flimsy quick.
My mother has the DSi XL and I've been really impressed with it. If something was to happen to my DSi I would pick up my own XL as it's replacement.

I don't care for the shoulder buttons on the XL. They're not comfortable to use at all.
I like having a portable DS.

My Backloggery
I like having a portable DS that fits my man hands.
But, yes, the shoulder buttons are not the best. My fingers are sort of wedged between the upper screen hinge and the shoulder buttons.
I got really excited when I read Shantae would be a "full release", until I got to the part that said it's still going to be DSiWare. Nicer that it'll be one download instead of three (?), but I'd love to have a boxed version.

Only about a hour in but Risky's Revenge seems much more polished than the original. The controls are responsive, getting from one place to another isn't nearly as tedious (easy to get lost though), and the graphics are damn impressive.
Go purchase the Map for 20gems in Scuttle Town - It really helps a lot.
I'm near the end of Shantae 2. Been loving every moment of it.
