The only good part of Superbad was McLovin and the cops. The main storyline was such a tossaway.
I'm still going to see this movie. After the whole pie thing in Spiderman 3, any movie with James Franco is a possibility.
This was ok. Stoners are only so funny. I thought it was more entertaining than Superbad though, especially the scenes with the two silly killers. Lots of blood btw.
Apatow's shit is getting tired.
I thought it was okay and laughed quite a bit, but it is being savaged by the critics.
Apatow (and Rogan?) reused a few scenes from their previous efforts.
A few that come to mind:
- Dale carrying Saul out of the building engulfed in flames, a la Seth carrying Evan out of the party in Superbad;
- Dale and Saul breaking up their budding bromance a la Seth and Evan before Seth is hit by the car;
- Saul getting hit by a police car a la Seth getting hit by a police car. Both movies used the conceit as a getaway plan for whoever is incarcerated;
- Saul attempts to kick out the police car's windshield a la Bill Hader's character in Superbad;
- a fight with fluorescent lights a la an opening scene in The 40 Year-Old Virgin
Btw., Craig Robinson was awesome.

Like I said, shit's getting tired.
I really, really, really wanted to LOVE this movie. And while I didn't hate it, I thought it was just ok. Sadly, I agree with Cow, apatow's shit IS getting old. It's the same old shit movie after movie.
Its the same complaint I have with Kevin Smith movies, and Quentin Tarantino movies to a certain extent. It's ok to have a recognizable style, but when every movie you make just feels like you having a conversation with yourself, that's not cool. Each of these guys just crafts their characters as a vehicle for them to spout their bullshit. And while I like some of their bullshit, it would be nice to have a change of pace every once in a while.
