A friend of mine has an excellent story about how he hunted David Lynch down when he was on campus and tried to get an answer about who the hell "Judy" was. I'll never be able to retell it like he did, so I'm gonna try to get it out of him. Will post if I do. Will poorly summarize if I don't!

I respect Lynch as an artist, and do believe his films are in many ways art. But they are also, in general, fucking awful, miserable experiences.

I really can't get into "stream of conciousness" surrealism. I'm all for weird movies, but I need them to draw me into their world instead of alienating me with a string of unconnected images.

I like David Lynch. Inland Empire is still an epic piece of shit though.

I like David Lynch. But honestly, I havent' seen as much of him as I would like. I'm about 3/4ths through Twin Peaks now, awesome (Although it's sort of floundering now that we've found out Leland killed Laura--David Duchovny in a dress is win though), Eraserhead is completely retarded but it's short enough and weird enough to be entertaining, Blue Velvet is probably his best.

But having said that I haven't seen Inland Empire, Lost Highway, or Mulholland Drive. My girlfriend's ex apparently made her watch Mulholland Dr. like 5 or 6 times and tried to develop his own theories about what it's about or whatever and simply would not believe that it probably doesn't have any meaning to begin with. I've been meaning to rent all of these but every time I look at my video stores "David Should Be Lynched" section, I get hit.

I haven't seen his most "out there" stuff, so I can't really comment on how full of shit or pretentious he is. But I like what I've seen, and he's a pretty amusing genuinely odd person. So

He also has his own brand of coffee now, which... well. I want.
