Thread: Do you tip when picking up takeout?

  1. Bartender's I know wear slutty jeans and shit just to get bigger tips so it's all fair game. I love jeans that look like they're painted on (so long as you actually have a set of legs or a butt, otherwise it's a waste of time). I wouldn't tip more for it, though.

  2. This is why you only get take-out from local Asian or Mexican restaurants: no white girl servers expecting to get a tip for simply doing their job.

  3. I like how Razor rips the service industry but he makes less than they do. It's loltastic. Stop hating, you are doing nothing better. Now go report on the shitter problem at any place near Penn station. Why are they always fucking clogged?

Most of them are in school, so the money does more good for them than me, what's five fucking dollars?

This pretty much sums it all up. Tips = To Insure Prompt Service. You make my food and don't "serve" me means you get no tip.

That being said, I get takeout yakisoba from a place around the corner at least twice a week and I always leave a couple bucks. Their food is rad, the old japanese lady knows my voice on the phone, and I'm positive they hook me up everytime I order takeout. And when I actually eat at their restaurant, i leave like 40% because they're awesome. If I get takeout anywhere else, fuck no tip.

Just because he makes shit money doesn't mean he can't complain about people who expect to get something for doing nothing.

So the guy cooking your food, the person entering your order correctly, and the person who brings it up and settles the transaction are doing nothing?

Man, if you get a degree you do the same thing except you get paid more.

That's the job they signed up for. If they don't like it they can quit. I don't get a tip for every story I write that shines a good light on the subject. I am paid to write a story. I shouldn't expect anything more for it.

Even if you tip change, like, 40 cents, it makes all the difference in the world.

Doesn't sound like they stay like regulars very long. A tip is just that - a tip. Whether or not the government has made it so you get paid less than minimum for a job is irrelevant. You go there knowing the only thing you're guaranteed and should expect is what you're being paid. I personally tip at restaurants - not for take out - but I do think it's odd anyone should get extra tax free money for doing what they have to in order to make a living.

My point is don't hate on other people's jobs or how they get paid.

I mean in my eyes your job is less valuable than an eatery employee, at least I can enjoy their food/beer.

    Tips are not tax free.

"I personally tip at restaurants - not for take out "

Your waiter is always being taxed on an assumed amount of tip based on your bill, regardless of whether you tip or not.

So, basically, if you don't tip, you're a douche. Unless the waiter is terrible, then you tip like a buck and hopefully they'll shape up.

Take out is different, they have to make minimum wage if they are dedicated take-out employees.
