The tower can't be brought down, and the turrets and rockets don't appear, until after you reach a specific spot on the ledge that triggers Marcus' instruction to Dom. I eventually did get past it, but I had to sort of cheat by backing the Centaur to the trigger spot, boosting back up the ledge, and then peeping in-and-out from behind the mountain cover to shoot the tower. There has to be another way to do that part.
I pretty much did it the same way you did, but I didn't back up that far. The way that damn troika can take you out so damn fast, even faster than you can aim at the damn tower most of the times, you pretty much have to back up to safety.

It's not a problem in TDM since you have an entire team to coordinate with but in Wingman you only have your partner to deal with them while other teams are attacking you from other directions which further distracts you from concentrating on the mortar goons.

I'm sure I'll eventually come up with an effective counter strategy but right now it's a pain in the ass....yet I can't stop playing.
I've actually never really had a problem with the mortar, its the boom shot I worry about in wingman. If another team hasn't already taken out the mortar, it's usually pretty easy to do yourself by either sniping, torque bow, or just running up to him and chainsawing him.

Amusingly I actually have no problem dealing with the boomshot. I guess we're just using very different tactics.

When it get's down to 2v2 the mortar becomes pretty useless but when you have a bunch of teams still running around from every angle the mortar is dangerous. I find it easy to rock snipers/torque users with the mortar, especially in avalanche.

Keeping on the subject of power weapons, the chaingun, that things weak against players. I love just running up on chaingun users and sawing them before they can get the gun fully revved. Sometimes they'll realize they don't have the time to rev it and try to dump the gun but by then it's too late.

Joining randoms to play horde is like spiking nails through my nutsack. Also: lag.

Really? All my matches with random have been great thus far. I was pleasantly surprised.

I played with mainly a bunch of decent people last night playing Submission and King of the Hill. Only experienced one game of lag where I literally couldn't move without being thrown back 15 feet over and over again. Every other game played like butter.

I managed to get into one (out of 5) games with no lag and we got to level 23 before 2 people dropped and I was stuck with the fucktards.

It's probably because during the early afternoon most of the players are from across the pond and you have been playing at night.

Can you not play at night? Cause seriously, playing with randoms is shit. Unless you just happen to get lucky and play some decent people.

  8. I'm almost finished with the campaign on normal. I thought I selected hardcore but didn't, and by the time I noticed I was already well into the game. I figure, with co-op and all, I'll play through the game two more times anyway (on hardcore and insane, as I did with Gears 1) so it's no big deal. Anyway, how's the multiplayer in terms of host advantage and lag? I loved Gears 1 multi but the host shotgun thing sort of killed it for me after a while.

The game technically picks hosts for 3 different aspects of the game. So while you may be party leader, you may not be host. So far, I've only run into a few unplayable games. I haven't noticed any host lancer or shotgun, but it seems there may be host advantage for chainsaw duels.

I'll be able to play tonight I'm sure. Last night we got to 20 with little to no problem, though it took a while.
