What's a good way to improve in the multiplayer? Other MP games I play (CoD4, TF2) seem to go okay, but I'm just not getting the flow of this one. Close range weapons like the shotgun don't seem to work like I would expect them. It seems to easy to get a shot off, see that they're still kicking, and watch them off me in one blast. There must be something about this I'm missing...

2 things, master the shotgun and learn to jump/roll out of the way. If they blast you in 1 shot, that means they have active reload. So you have to do the same. Active reload whenever possible (in the middle of a shotgun duel) so if you hit them they will go down with a few shots instead of many (and increase you chance of one hit kill).

Other thing is to stick with your teammate and provide support. I.E. shoot them with lancer/hammerburst in medium range.

You will be fine as you get used to the maps and how people play.
