Thread: Wild ARMs XF

  1. Hrm I'll give it a shot when it's lower priced then. Too many other games to play.

  2. XSEED is quickly becoming one of my favorite publishers and this does look pretty. The problem is that I've had an impacted assful of SRPG's where the extent of the "S" is little more than power-leveling your party, luring one enemy into your attack range at a time, and gang-banging them. Nippon Ichi has practically trademarked this approach over the last few years.

If this game implores actual strategy, I'll gladly pick it up.

  3. Yes, the game employs real strategy - it plays very little like a Nippon Ichi game. If you're used to those games this one will be difficult. After a couple hours of play I was already getting my ass kicked. Once I got used to it, things flowed smoothly, but I had to plan my class choices and moves ahead a lot more than in other recent SRPGs. And the deep class system can keep you busy for a long time (the classes are also super cool).

I've had a lot more fun with it than FFT PSP, in any case.

And some of you guys seem to be mixing WA5 and WA XF together in this thread - WA5 is ridiculously easy. WA XF is not. So far the story is better in WA XF too (though I have not finished the game yet).

I'll probably pick up the US version to support XSEED - they're one of the few promising US localizers out there.

Actual difficulty in WA XF will be very welcome indeed. A game that has some staying power. I figured out that you weren't talking about WA5 and edited my post accordingly.

This will be mine eventually. Looks hot.
I took all your French Toast.

  6. This dropped today, anyone else pick it up?

Made it through the first couple fights, but I haven't tried any of the classes yet. But I'm liking it so far, and I'm digging the HEX grids and team ups.
    All is well.

  7. Just got the first set of classes outside the initial ones. Game has been really fun so far. I really dig the additional challenge in stages you could take on if you wanted. Second battle has a high level Secutor that can kill you in two hits, but whathisface's disarm makes his attacks weak. Same thing in the escape from the burning city battle. Four level 20 characters you're supposed to avoid by blockin their path with stone pillars. So just let two in, block the other two until you're ready for them, then destroy the barrel and let them through.

Loads of different ways to build your characters, too. Rebecca's class with the engineer skill decelerate (or rebecca as an engineer with her special class Equipment skill) was really handy for slowing down enemy turns from long range while dealing damage.

  8. Sounds like a damn good game.

  9. I'm loving the some of the stages, like the sneaking one alan was talking about. And the classes are awesome. Damn great game so far, it's in my running for sleeper hit of the year, I don't think anyone other than the people who read this thread and made it know about it.
    All is well.

  10. It's out?

Fuck, there's actually a lot of games flying under my radar right now. Time to put away the anime and get some personal time in with my PSP.
