Remember when the Democrats owned the office and the other branches and literally did nothing with it? Me too!
I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad Advocate's happy and obviously he's had some rough times, but $8.25 an hour is not something you hang out hat on IMO. Good for now, but keep looking.

Realistically sort of - but it was recent and that's what matters. Your team had a golden egg and squandered it. Now everyone seemingly forgets this little fact and acts like the Republicans are "in the way". I just want to point out that when they weren't (as) in the way you still did dick all.
Dems and Reps all have relatively the same financial backers to their campaigns so it's not hard to see why they didn't go crazy pushing their agenda (for gay rights, for civil service upgrades, for high speed internet and lightspeed rail as Obama wanted). It's entertaining to see how easy the red vs. blue dynamic causes people to forget that so easily.

He got a health care law passed, imperfect as it was.

The problem is that the term "Democrat" can refer to anyone from a classic liberal like Dennis Kucinich to a corporatist stooge like Ben Nelson. It was also a time when the Blue Dogs were trying to assert themselves as a group, and they did that by opposing Obama's agenda.
It really wasn't anything like, say, 2003 when Republicans had common cause to steal the country's money and engage in unneeded wars to enrich their benefactors. The Democratic party is constructed differently.
And the Republicans engaged in full on obstructionism. Democrats needed 60 votes to pass anything. Yes they had 60 votes, but that includes guys like Nelson and fuckface Lieberman.
I grew up in a poor area and saw this sentiment a lot - like, you are taking your ass reaming in stride and it's a sign of virtue. As compared to, say, striking janitors - they should just keep their mouth shut because I'm getting screwed and not complaining about it. Now that I moved up a social class or two - I never ever ever ever hear it. People who are not happy with their situation try to change it in some way.Originally Posted by Drewbacca
