    I am a very, very large Nixon fan and have read most of his books. He is most assuredly not left of Obama. Are you talking about what Obama has been able to get passed or what he would do if Congress didn't exist?

    Nixon was an environmentalist and did make some mistakes with regard to price controls, so that is probably where your comment is coming from. JFK was probably right of Obama, and Nixon was clearly to the right of him.

    The problem is that several of you guys actually think of yourselves as moderate when you really aren't, so it skews your view of everyone else.

    He wouldn't have signed Gramm Leach if Republicans hadn't written them in the first place. Just because Clinton did something that Congress or Senate wanted him to do doesn't matter here. You're red herring things here. Especially since they passed House and Senate so strongly Clinton's veto would have been a waste of his time and only been for grandstanding in purpose.

    It is their fault for carrying a balance. Those who do the right thing, e.g. don't carry a balance or pay late, are the ones that get screwed, since the feds made it harder for the credit card companies to make money in order to protect the deadbeats. And what the fuck free market are you talking about? We don't have one.

    The things banks and credit card companies did/do to get more fees is soooooooo underhanded I don't know how you can defend it. Period. If it was the Fed saying they're not allowed to charge late fees or other reasonable things then I'd prolly be in your boat too. I'm pro business too, just pro "honest" business.

    My point about free market competition still applies though. Credit card companies just don't want to give up the easy money they've been making.

    That's true, but in some ways the lack of a true free market lets them get away with that. Some of them may have gotten what they deserved in the crash if it were a true free market.
