I guess I would really have to see how bad this depression would be. Are there any estimations of how low things would probably go assuming no bailout? Unemployment being the most important.

the real problem here is credit. because of all these bad assets, banks don't trust each other, and everyone is holding on to their cash. this even extends to ordinary people who have been pulling their money out of banks. one consequence is that people can't get mortgages, which crushes the already beaten up housing market, because the only buyers out there are the ones with cash. another is that businesses can't get lines of credit (or have to pay more for the ones they have) so they can't pay their bills, including their employees.
so basically people are facing declining investment values while their home values fall through the floor and their jobs and paychecks are in jeopardy. scary shit.

I'm actually kinda worried when my car lease is up next year. My credit is fine but who knows how tight they may be. I was going to wait until my bonus to finally buy, but they've been sending me postcards saying they'd waive the last six months of the lease if I come in now.
So do I go now so I ensure I actually get something or wait for things to go more to pot and not be able to get anything?

If you're worried, why not save your bonus and buy a used car outright with cash?
