Yeah I was wondering about that too.
Does it have to be their eBooks or can I download my own and put them on there?

I tried out the Sony PRS300 and liked it a good deal, it works with most of the formats the BPL has to offer (and plenty of free public domain stuff) so I hope to pick one up soon. If you intend to buy a lot of ebooks the Kindle sounds like a better device, I just hope there's some kind of standardization of formats soon but I know that's not terribly likely.![]()
Yeah format wars are killing the market for these things right now.
Until some kind of standard emerges, I don't think we'll really see them taking off.
Or until somebody figures out how to crack them to easily read pirated e-books.

There are apparently methods of stripping DRM from purchased or loaned books. I'm sure I'll know more about it when I have the reader in hand. I'm not really all about book piracy so to speak, I'd just like to read the huge number of books I've already purchased on the device, y'know? I like the library loan system in that regard. Read nice books, files go away after a week or two, no overdue fees or dragging my ass down to the BPL because the Brighton branch still hasn't reopened!
My sincere hope is that somewhere down the line we get the vinyl+mp3s or disc+digital copy model with ebooks. Buy a paperback, get a code for a version you can throw on the reader of your choice as well.

Here's those 11 useful tips for Amazon's Kindle
1) 'Ear we go! You already know Kindle is an e-book reader. Well, Kindle is also an audiobook reader. And it is an MP3 player too. It has a headphone jack and speakers. If you go to Audible.com you can buy audiobooks. Special software is available for download especially for your Kindle allowing you to connect to and purchase directly from their website.
Oh, and by the way, while reading you can also listen to music too. Cool or what!

FYI!Another issue with conversions where MobiPocket is great: when you email a text file, Word doc, PDF, etc. to Amazon for conversion, the author’s name doesn’t get listed on the Kindle home page – instead, your email address displays. But if you use MobiPocket Creator to do the conversion, you can add the book’s author and cover artwork, etc. in the setup, and it will load to the Kindle.
GET THE KINDLE AND THEN D/L MOBIPOCKET!
