How's it stand with the other recent Seuss movies?
They were very bad, making me think the stories aren't ment for a two-hour run time.
I didn't expect much from the movie going into it because outside of Pixar, I don't like many 3D animated films.
That being said, this movie was great! The animation is fantastic, and there are some great scenes/characters that really utilize it. They really nailed the look and sustained it throughout the entire film (something that is hard to do). Along with all of this, the voice acting was just spot on.
If I had any complaints the movie tries to do a bit much, and some parts are akwardly random in a Jim Carrey way, but are entertaining to say the least.
One section of the movie turns into a japanese anime and manages to nail every cliche within a minute.
I never read the book as a kid, so I went into this not knowing anything. I really liked the spiritual undertones of this movie, I think its worth seeing. They did a great job with all the whoville stuff.
This is leagues above the recent Seuss movies. The live action Cat in the Hat and Grinch were fucking awful, this was great.
I'd say this was as close to the old school Chuck Jones Seuss animations as you're going to get in the modern day.
The animation is fantastic, simply amazing. I would agree that there are a few spots, like the anime sequence, and a few other Carey moments that may have been a bit too much, but overall they really got it.
The trailer made this look like Shreky nonsense with a lot of wisecracking and that same sense of timing that feels so forced. If it's not I might give it a shot.
