Thread: Your Big Projects

  1. In response to PV:
Well, what I could use you agreeing with me that the amount of options lying within is VERY overwhelming.

It's moreso starting out and figuring out which kind of primitives to start with. NURBS, SubDiv, Polygon...

  2. Poly! Use poly!

  3. I just remember NURBS were a big no-no for animation stuff. I'm sure it's a different story if you're doing solid objects, though.

Well yeah Maya is a HUGE HUGE HUGE program. It does animation, modeling, dynamics, 3 or 4 rendering engines (Maya Software, Mental Ray, Maya Vector, and Maya Hardware), It does cloth sims, match moving, etc etc etc.

Well it depends on what you're going to model. I know some people will say poly's for everything, but it really does depend on what you're going to be modeling. So what do you have to model?

Generally yeah, though some places still hold onto nurbs for animation. Dreamworks is still an all nurbs house. Everything they do is nurbs, but they've built up this pipeline that supports that, and this AMAZINGLY insane stitcher for nurbs patches that's like 1000000 times better than anything inside Maya by default. Generally though, yeah if you're making an animated character in this day and age you're either going to be making it polys or sub d's.

  5. I'm not sure if this counts, but I'm trying to finish a novel. I've been working on it for the past... three years I suppose. My tentative completion date is August of this year. I doubt that's going to happen.

The writing process has been somewhat frustrating. I know exactly where I want to go. It's just a matter of getting there. It takes a while to formulate jokes and random-sounding conversations.

Once I finish, I'll spend another few months editing the piece. The latter chapters kick the shit out of the earlier ones.

I'll try to get a few more short stories published.

  6. I'm writing a crime thriller novel about an elite federal agent being stalked by a psycho drug thug, set in Miami. Sounds like a men's adventure story, but there's also a tragic love story in the plot. My title is A Deadly Spill of Scarlet.

  7. That's a terrible title.

  8. Nice Cindy, when do think it will be finished?

I like the title... but then again I've proven to have shitty taste by my choice in cereals.

  9. Don't you have to go play Family Guy on your Nokia or something?
