Thread: Revamping Play Online - Want Some Opinions

  4. Image page is also sort of working. If you look at the bottom of a content page, you'll see a link that says "IMAGES". Kind of hard to read, since it's purple on grey, but it's the only link there.

  5. I like it. But the text box over the art sucks. I'd rather you had what you did earlier and just use a dropshadow. Like that code I posted awhile ago.

    It looks very clean and techno-chic, which is your style so that makes sense. And this is gaming so they go well together (though I'd love to see a more unique direction this is good). I don't like how the big Persona 3 FES table is slightly smaller than the girls of gaming banner to the right hand side. Definitely make sure those are aligned in the final.

    Also I am having a hard time establishing a hierarchy. The Persona FES table and girls of gaming banner have about the same level of pop to them and really compete with one another for your eye.

    The same problem also happens when I'm looking at the bottom portion with the 3 tables. They all look really similar and seem to compete with each other and that makes the content a bit more of a chore to wade through with the eye. The culprit could be the Super Dodgeball Brawlers image on the right being so ridiculously vibrant. If you colour adjust that image to be a little less saturated it could help (though that's a pretty quick fix). Neither of these issues are really bad or bring the site down because it's not that apparent or bad.

    Anyway, I like the style. The creative seems neat. The technical layout is what I'm having issues with when I look at it.

    Yeah, they'll be the same height in the final. Trust me, bugs me too.

    Well, here's the problem: if you look at the current Play website, the homepage is a mess of ads with content stuck into it seemingly at random. That's thanks to the higher ups. What I'm trying to do with the new site is not have it be a complete mess of ad banners, while at the same time try to develop something that will make my bosses happy. What I absolutely don't want is to hear, "This looks good, but can you ad more banners here and here?"

    So, while I don't completely like the banners fighting with the content, (a) I'm kind of stuck in that regard, and (b) I'm trying to help keep things as separate as possible.


    Oh, also... while on the site, check out "imagestream" from the top navigation. Still needs a LOT of work (no filters but the search box yet work), but you'll get the idea. By default, it'll just toss up a bunch of images according to what has most recently been added to the site. But, from there, you'll be able to filter by image title, relatedtitle (aka the title of the product/whatever the image is associated with), keyword, and maybe some other stuff. (Still working out those details.) So, for example, if you type "Persona" in the search box, you'll see that it'll then only show the Persona 3 FES images. Obviously the main way to see images are to get to them from their related content, but I wanted a secondary, but "fun" way to just browse through the image content we've got up.

  9. Not sure if I like that shade of yellow used behind the text pics.

  10. ...yellow? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The only yellow used on the entire site is the coloring for the word "gear".
