Aside from bad voice acting is there any other problems with the ps1 version?

Tsubaki just elaborated on them, and while they sound small when you read them, there's a really big difference in the quality of the game overall on Saturn, imo. I played the PS1 version years ago and thought "wow, this kind of sucks," and played the Saturn version 3 months ago and thought "wow, this is pretty decent." That's unusual for a 32-bit game, as they generally don't age well at all.

I also think the story comes across a lot better in Japanese, sorry, don't shoot me.

I've always wanted to play Saiyuki. Wonder if it's still worth picking up.

I liked it alot, played all the way to the last battle and got decimated. Not sure where I went wrong, I was cruising for the most part and the end was just impossible.
