Thread: Your Top 10 PSOne RPGs

  1. #151
What happened to the DS Azure Dreams that was announced a while back?

This thread made me realize just how much more I used to be into JRPGs. I bought nearly every PS1 game mentioned in this thread yet the only JRPG I have bought since FFXII has been Persona 3: FES.

  2. RPGs are just time-consuming. I enjoyed them when I was in grade/high school and had nothing but time to burn and little cash to spend. Buy an RPG for $50 and play it for a month or two. Now it's so hard to fit in that much time into an RPG. Shit, if I were to replay Breath of Fire 3 during the same time frame now it'd take me almost a year to beat it.

  3. That's why Persona 3 is so great. You can easily play it in short bursts, and just the same it's great for hours at a time. The same is not true of most RPGs. FFXII gave me trouble with this.

  4. I gave up on FFXII after I got to Cid's tower. I could not bring myself to level grind against the knights just to beat him. I gave up and finished college. How sad.

I thought I was the only one who liked this game, +1 to you good sir.

It's late, so I'm gonna throw together a quick list with no particular order:

    1. FFT
    2. FFVII
    3. Parasite Eve
    4. Legend of Mana
    5. BoF III
    6. Xenogears
    7. Tales of Destiny
    8. Azure Dreams
    9. Chrono Cross
    10. Vanguard Bandits

Just some that I remember having good times with back in my PRG heyday.
    All is well.

  8. It's called Hyperbole.

  9. BoF III took me the better part of two months to finish. Mainly because it was my first time actually playing an RPG to completion and not knowing what the fuck I was doing. I kept getting stomped on the regular by bosses and did the majority of the side quests, even the fairy village.

Back then I would play for hours a day. Now I'd play for half-hour or so every couple of days. If I would have stuck with it I imagine a year is how long it would have taken me to finish the game.

  10. It's a long game I agree with you, I had 100+ hours into it (Though I'm pretty sure like 30 of it was the fairy village and playing the soundtrack while I played other games because I"m a dork like that). The game was really cool, I get a hardon for games that let the characters age like that, something about disappearing in the tomb and coming back years later to find everyone grown up really excites me and I wish more games would let the course of time effect it's characters, though I can understand that's more animation work and design but fuck you it's awesome when it's done well.
