Thread: Your Top 10 PSOne RPGs

  1. This is not in any order:

Final Fantasy 7 - Today it might be way over rated but you can't deny it's importance to RPGs in the US, and I might not be here today (on TNL) if it wasn't for this game.

Castlevania SOTN - This is still one of my favorite games today, I think if fact my #2 game right after Super Mario Bros. 3

Lunar - Classic anime styled RPG. With a love story that I didn't want to beat someone to death for.

    Lunar 2 - Another classic

Chrono Cross - You might hate this game, but I freaking like it a lot. Also perhaps the best video game sound track ever?!

Persona - Crappy graphics and substandard translation hurt this game a lot but it's still one of the most interesting and original RPGs I've ever played. Top of my list for a real remake.

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment - In my top 5 games of all time. This is one of those games I just really enjoyed.

Dragon Warrior VII - This is another game that gets a lot of hate, but I played for some obscene amount of time, so I enjoyed it a lot. The best were the monster in the monster town that said the most fucked up stuff.

Final Fantasy Tactics - I must have tried playing this game like 3 times before I got the hang of it (I had never playing a game like it before). But once I got the hang of it, I feel in love with sRPGs.

Tales of Destiny - Another enjoyable anime style rpg, though I can't seem to get in any of the other Tales games.

  2. Why is SotN an RPG, again? Is it because numbers appear on screen to signify damage?

If Konami put lifebars over the enemies' heads instead of numbers, or better yet, kept the attack-versus-health math invisible like every other action game, would anyone even think about classifying it as an RPG?

  3. SOTN is a RPG because it has turn based combat. Alucard hits skeleton, skeleton throws bone back, etc

  4. Then should Final Fantasy Tactics really count as a RPG? You don't go town to town and talk to people, and do goofy quests. And the game play is different from a typical rpg.

That's not a very good comparison. Because you do in fact go to the bar and do goofy quests though you don't always do them yourself.

  7. Eh whatever...

  8. RESIDENT EVIL 4 IS AN RPG, BECAUSE YOU PLAY A ROLE!

One of my biggest gripes about working in game retail, is assholes who walk in, ask if you have any good rpgs, then after you name some off, reply with, "no, not those games. RPGs like Resident Evil and Silent Hill."
    Fuck, I hate those people.

  9. Yes, FFT is not an rpg and SotN is. COME ON.

Well the I put both on my list but if we are going to have one then shouldn't we not have the other. FFT is really a strategy game and SotN is an action/adventure game, but they both have RPG elements. So if one doesn't count then both of them shouldn't count.
